Abstract:ObjectiveTo investigate the prevalence of subclinical hypothyroidism(SCH) and discuss the relationship between thyroid stimulating hormone (TSH) and blood pressure in population of Quanzhou city.MethodsA total of 1 742 persons over thirty years old who had lived in this area at least five years were randomly enrolled.The data of blood pressure, thyroid function, fasting plasma glucose(FPG), triglyceride(TG) were collected.All data were analyzed by SPSS 18.0 software.ResultsThe overall SCH prevalence was (3.90%), and there was not significant difference between females (4.24%)and males (2.99%)(P>0.05).The SCH prevalence in the people of thirty to thirty-nine age group(4.74%) was higher than that in the people of sixty to sixty-nine age group(2.58%), and the females of thirty to thirty-nine age group had highest SCH prevalence.Furthermore, there was a positive correlation between TSH level and diastolic blood pressure(DBP) (β=0.064, P<0.05).ConclusionThe prevalence of SCH is higher in young females in Quanzhou coastal area and SCH may be a risk factor in high blood pressure.
