Abstract:Objective To investigate epidemiology, distribution feature and influencing factors of asthma in children aged from 0 to 14 years old in Quanzhou city. Methods children aged from 0 to 14 years old in Quanzhou city were investigated randomly using cluster sampling method. Results The accumulative total morbidity rate of asthma in children aged from 0 to 14 years old in Quanzhou city was 4.97%, and the gender rate was 1.45:1. Significant differences of morbidity and the age of initial attack were found among every age group(P<0.001), with the highest both from 0 to 3 years old, and the prevalence rate in industrial area was singificantly higher than that of residential area(P<0.001). The attack seasons were mostly in autumn, winter and during seasonal variation, and midnight also encountered the most attacks. The asthmatic attack was correlated with respiratory infection, hypersensitiveness and genetic factor. Treatment of children with was 100% of bronchodilators,91.56% of inhaled corticosteroid, 85.03% of systemic hormone, 66.12% of anti-leukotriene drugs. There were averagely 58 days for the asthmatic children absent from class because of the illness, 46 days for each family. The average expenditure of those asthmatic children who did not get specified treatment was 9 658.45 Yuan per year, while 4 369.91 Yuan of those accepted specified therapy, namely under GINA program. The expenditure was sigificanly different between non-specific therapy and specified therapy(P<0.001). Conclusion The total morbidity rate of asthma in children aged from 0 to 14 years old in Quanzhou city was 4.97%. Its cause are related with respiratory infection, hypersensitiveness and genetic factor. Specified therapy can reduse the expenditure.
